Spring is definitely here, the office heating has been turned down but I'm not quite ready to brave the au naturel English air temperate just yet. Therefore, it’s time for another favourites post and this month we’ve had a pretty jam packed March.
My favourite project this month was a book cover for Ironside, the debut novel from local author Heather Flack, telling the story of the Danish invasion of England.
I designed the cover with the help of Bhavin, a freelance illustrator from MistryLab. From Bhavin’s initial warrior sketch I started to play around with layouts and colour schemes for the cover. This is the first book cover I’ve designed and it was a great project to be able to collaborate with an illustrator on. I love mixing illustration with photography, so that’s where I took the design from day one. For the final layout design I moved the illustration off centre and cropped it so that the eye of the warrior was on the spine. This was a concious decision to make the book stand out from other books on the shelf. The book is aimed at children and I think the warriors eye watching you from the bookshelf is going to really inspire their imaginations before they even pick up the book and start reading.
Ironside is available for download on Kindle and is currently available in local stores with national distribution to be confirmed. Heather celebrated her book launch on April 9th and our front cover design took pride of place on the cake.
I started the month in London where I visited the Cosmonauts exhibition, saw Stomp on the West End and had lots of adventures around Shoreditch - Check out my London Blog
Earlier this month I spent a day in the studio with Sian Conway Photography getting creative helping to style and direct a photoshoot with a wonderful little 2 year old. We went ‘pretty in pink’ with helium filled balloons and unicorns - Check out Sian’s Instagram for the final results.
I was lucky enough to see the 1975 perform at the Genting Area this month. Seeing bands perform live is always my favourite way to spend my time - various gigs will be making a appearances throughout most of my favourites blogs over the summer as I already have a stack of gig tickets waiting to be used!
